Controller Vibration

This guide explains how to enable controller vibration across PlayStation® 4, PlayStation® 5, DualSense™ Edge, Xbox, and Steam. It helps users make sure vibration is properly enabled on their platform, controller profile, Steam settings, and in-game settings so Cronus scripts can detect required gameplay events and function correctly.

Controller Vibration

Many Cronus scripts use controller vibration to detect certain in-game events, so vibration must be enabled for them to work correctly. Use the steps below for your platform to make sure it's turned on.

Menu names may vary slightly

Exact labels can differ depending on your console, controller, system software, or Steam version. If a menu name doesn't match exactly, look for the closest equivalent.

PlayStation® 4

  1. Turn on your PS4 and make sure your controller is connected.
  2. From the home screen, go to Settings → Devices → Controllers.
  3. Find Enable Vibration (sometimes labelled Vibration Function) and make sure it is On.

Still not vibration? Reset the controller

  1. Turn the controller over and find the small reset button on the back.
  2. Press it with a paperclip or similar small tool.
  3. Reconnect the controller to your PS4 and test again.

PlayStation® 5

The steps depend on which controller you have — a standard DualSense™ or a DualSense Edge™.

DualSense™

  1. With your controller connected, press the PS button to open the control center, then select the gear icon ⚙️ to open Settings.
  2. Go to Accessories → Controllers.
  3. Set Vibration Intensity to Strong (Standard).
  4. Set Trigger Effect Intensity to Strong (Standard).

DualSense Edge™

Edge settings are saved per profile

DualSense™ Edge settings are saved per profile. These steps change the active profile only — the one marked with a 🟢 green circle.

  1. With your controller connected, press the PS button to open the control center, then select the gear icon ⚙️ to open Settings.
  2. Go to Accessories → DualSense Edge Wireless Controller → Custom Profiles.
  3. Select the profile with the 🟢 green circle next to it (the active profile).
  4. Set Vibration Intensity to Strong (Standard).
  5. Set Trigger Effect Intensity to Strong (Standard).

Xbox

  1. Turn on your Xbox® and make sure your controller is connected.
  2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  3. Go to Profile & System → Settings → Devices & connections → Controllers & headsets.
  4. Select your controller from the list, then select Configure.
  5. Select the pencil icon, then Turn on vibration.
  6. Save your changes.

Steam (PC)

If you play on PC through Steam, vibration may also need to be enabled in Steam's own controller settings.

  1. Open Steam and go to Steam → Settings (Windows) or Steam → Preferences (macOS).
  2. Select Controller in the left-side menu.
  3. Under External Gamepad Settings, make sure Steam Input is enabled for your controller type.
  4. Select your controller near the top of the window — it appears there once detected.
  5. Turn on the vibration setting (labelled Game Rumble or similar).

Steam Input vibration only applies to supported Steam games.

⚠️ Vibration Still Not Working?

Work through these checks:

  • Check the game's own settings menu — many games have their own vibration toggle that overrides everything else.
  • Confirm the controller is properly connected and its battery is charged.
  • Check your hardware — some third-party controllers, cables, and adapters do not support vibration at all.

✅ Quick Recap

  • Vibration enabled for your platform (PS4 / PS5 DualSense™ / PS5 Edge / Xbox)
  • PS5 Edge users: set on the active 🟢 profile
  • Steam users: Steam Input on, Game Rumble enabled
  • Vibration also on in the game's own settings
