GameSir G7 HE/SE Setup

Fix GameSir G7 HE / SE compatibility with the Cronus Zen — downgrade the controller firmware to 6.4.0 or switch to Mirror Mode, plus the raw stick calibration in the Nexus app and the correct power-up sequence for connecting to the Cronus Zen.

🎮 GameSir G7 HE / SE Setup (2026)

After GameSir's latest firmware update, G7 HE / SE controllers no longer work when connected directly to the Cronus Zen. This guide fixes that — two methods, pick one:

  • Method 1 — Downgrade the controller firmware to a compatible version. Simplest and most reliable.
  • Method 2 — Switch the input mode (Mirror Mode) to restore Zen compatibility without downgrading.

Which method should I use?

Method 1 is the set-and-forget option — downgrade once and the controller just works. Method 2 keeps the latest GameSir firmware but involves a button-combo sequence and comes with some button limitations on PS5. If you're not sure, use Method 1.

🔽 Method 1 — Downgrade the Firmware

Flash the controller back to the last Zen-compatible firmware version (6.4.0):

  1. Download the downgrade tool: G7 6.4.0.exe (Windows)
  2. Connect your G7 HE / SE to your PC with a USB data cable.
  3. Run G7 6.4.0.exe and follow the on-screen prompts to flash the firmware.
  4. Wait for the process to report complete before disconnecting.

Don't disconnect mid-flash

Never unplug the controller while the firmware is flashing — wait until the tool confirms the downgrade finished.

Skip Nexus updates afterward

The GameSir Nexus app will offer to "update" you right back to the broken firmware. After downgrading, decline firmware updates until Zen compatibility is confirmed for a newer version.

Once downgraded, jump to Connecting to the Zen below.

🔀 Method 2 — Input Mode Fix (No Downgrade)

This method keeps the latest GameSir firmware and switches the controller's input mode instead.

Before you start

  • Set the controller's polling rate to 250Hz or 500Hz — ⚠️ do not use 1000Hz.
  • Update the firmware using the GameSir Nexus app.
  • Open Zen Studio → Device tab on your PC, with all cables unplugged from the Zen.

Xbox & PC sequence

  1. Launch the Nexus app and connect the controller — don't press any buttons.
  2. Hold Xbox + Share until you hear the Windows disconnect sound (or see a screen flash).
  3. Plug the top USB into the Zen, then connect the right-side PROG port to your PC.
  4. Connect the controller to the Zen and wait for it to power up.
  5. Hold Xbox + Share again for 2–3 seconds, until the Xbox logo and controller icon appear — the input mode is now Mirror Mode.
  6. Open the Device Monitor in Zen Studio to confirm everything is working.

PS5 sequence

  1. Perform the PS5 controller bypass first (required for DualSense® and DualSense® Edge) — see our PlayStation® 5 Setup guide.
  2. Connect the DualSense® / DualSense® Edge controller to your PC.
  3. Hold PS + Menu until you hear the Windows disconnect sound.
  4. Plug into the A3 port on the Zen.
  5. Hold PS + Menu again for 2–3 seconds until connected.

❗ GameSir + PS5 button limitations

Depending on the mode you're in, one button won't function:

  • Xbox 360 mode → View ✅ · Share ❌ · Xbox button ✅
  • Xbox One mode → View ✅ · Share ✅ · Xbox button ❌

Switching modes

You can switch between modes anytime by holding Xbox + Share while in the Device Monitor.

Method 2 quirks to know

  • GameSir settings may reset after disconnecting the controller — re-check them if things stop working.
  • If the Xbox button appears stuck, press it once to release it.
  • In rare cases, the PROG cable may need to stay connected for the controller to function.

🕹️ G7 SE — Raw Stick Calibration (Nexus App)

The G7 SE's Hall Effect stick sensors deliver near-zero drift — but for Cronus Zen compatibility, the sticks must be set to raw output in the Nexus app:

  1. Download the GameSir Nexus app.
  2. Select Update and program to the latest version (Method 1 users: your 6.4.0 firmware stays — skip this step).
  3. Once completed, select ProfilesProfile 1 should be highlighted — then click Configure.
  4. Select Sticks at the top of the screen.
  5. Set the Left Stick Range "Initial" value to 0 and enable Raw.
  6. Set the Right Stick Range "Initial" value to 0 and enable Raw.
  7. Move the sticks around until both X & Y read 0.00%, then press A to confirm.

🔌 Connecting to the Zen

The G7 needs a specific power-up sequence when connecting:

  1. Connect the Zen to your console from the CONSOLE/PC USB port (rear).
  2. Wait 5 seconds.
  3. Connect the GameSir controller to the A1 port.
  4. Look for the white LED on the controller — that confirms it powered on.
  5. Tap the Zen's reset button — after a few seconds the RGBs turn green.

You're ready to play.

The 5-second wait matters

If you connect the controller without waiting, it will not power on — no white LED means start the sequence over.

✅ Quick Recap

  • Fix chosen — Method 1 (downgrade to 6.4.0 via the tool) or Method 2 (Mirror Mode, polling at 250/500Hz, never 1000Hz)
  • G7 SE: sticks set to Raw with Initial range 0 in the Nexus app, verified at 0.00%
  • Connection sequence followed — console first, wait 5 seconds, controller to A1, white LED, reset → green RGBs
  • PS5 Method 2 users: bypass done first, and the mode's button limitation understood
