PlayStation® 5 Setup
This guide walks users through setting up Cronus Zen for PlayStation® 5, including the recommended Zen Link™ native PS5 method, required PS5 console settings, output protocol setup, and manual bypass steps for DualSense™ and DualSense™ Edge controllers. It also explains important requirements like disabling Rest Mode, using USB communication, and making sure no script is running before starting the bypass process.
PlayStation® 5 Setup
This guide covers setting up your Cronus Zen for use on PlayStation® 5 — the recommended Zen Link™ native PS5 method, the required console settings, and the controller bypass process for DualSense™ and DualSense™ Edge controllers.
PS5 Console User Notice
The PS5 controller is not officially supported by Cronus Zen when used directly on a PS5 console.
Thanks to Zen Link™, there's now a fully supported native solution — or you can perform the manual bypass using the steps further down this page.
Recommended: Zen Link (Native PS5 Support)
Zen Link™ now offers true native PS5 support — no bypass, no Remote Play, and no extra setup required. This is the easiest and most reliable option.
This is the recommended path
If you'd rather skip the manual bypass entirely, Zen Link handles PS5 connectivity natively.
👉 Purchase your Zen Link here.
If you're using Zen Link, you can stop here — the native support takes care of everything. The remaining sections are for users performing the manual bypass instead.
One-Time Setup (Do This Once)
Complete these steps a single time before using the bypass. You won't need to repeat them each session.
Set the Output Protocol (on PC):
- Connect the PROG port (right-side USB) of your Cronus Zen to your PC.
- Open Zen Studio and go to the Device tab.
- Set Output Protocol to PlayStation 5, then close Zen Studio.
- Disconnect the PROG cable, then connect the CONSOLE/PC port (rear USB) to your PS5.
Connect the controller & confirm no script is running:
- Plug your PS5 controller into the A1 port (left-side USB) on the Zen.
- Make sure no script is running — press the top-right blue button until the screen shows "Zen" 👽.
Configure PS5 console settings:
- Go to System → Power Saving and set both Rest Mode options to Don't Put in Rest Mode.
- Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off to Don't Turn Off.
- Go to Accessories → General and make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Go to Accessories → Controllers (General) → Communication Method and select Use USB Cable.
Rest Mode will break your connection
Setting both Rest Mode options to Don't Put in Rest Mode is important — if the PS5 enters rest mode, your bypass connection will drop.
DualSense™ Controller — Bypass Steps
Perform these steps each time you need to connect a standard DualSense controller:
- Plug your PS5 controller into the A1 port (left-side USB).
- Make sure no script is running (top-right blue button until the screen shows "Zen" 👽).
- On your PS5, go to Settings → Accessories → General and highlight — do not select — Turn Off Accessories.
- While holding Right D-Pad, press the small blue reset button on the bottom of the Zen and wait a few seconds.
Step 3 — highlight, don't select
You're hovering over Turn Off Accessories, not pressing it. Selecting it would actually turn your controller off.
DualSense™ Edge Controller — Bypass Steps
The DualSense Edge uses a slightly different procedure. Perform these steps each time you connect it:
- Plug your DualSense Edge into the A1 port (left-side USB).
- Make sure no script is running (top-right blue button until the screen shows "Zen" 👽).
- On your PS5, go to Settings → Accessories → General and highlight — do not select — Turn Off Accessories.
- Disconnect the CONSOLE/PC port (rear USB) from the PS5, and make sure the PROG port is disconnected too.
- Press the PS button on your DualSense Edge to power it on.
- While holding Right D-Pad, reconnect the CONSOLE/PC port (rear USB) to the PS5 and wait.
Step 3 — highlight, don't select
As with the standard DualSense, you're only hovering over Turn Off Accessories — don't press it.
✅ Quick Recap
- Easiest option: Zen Link™ for native PS5 support — no bypass needed
- One-time setup done: Output Protocol → PlayStation® 5, PS5 power/controller settings configured, Rest Mode disabled
- Controller in the A1 port, no script running ("Zen" 👽 on screen)
- Ran the correct bypass for your controller — DualSense™ or DualSense™ Edge
- Reminder: highlight Turn Off Accessories, never select it
